يعد شانديا واحد من العشرات الذين هم خارج المدرسة وذلك بسبب عدم إمكانية الأهل تحمل اعباء الدراسة وهذا حال معظم العائلات في شمال أوغندا حيث يفتقر الكثير من الأولاد إلى تحصيل العلم بسبب الضائقة المعيشية التي تعاني منها المنطقة كى باقي حال مناطق ودول أفريقية .

و تعد أوغندا واحدة من أكثر البلدان التي يعاني سكانها الفقر حيث لا يتجاوز دخل الفرد حسب البنك الدولي فيها ١١٠٠ دولار سنويًا هذا طبقا لأخر التقديرات . إما معدل الفقر فمرتفع جداً حيث تشير أخر الاحصاءت إلى ما نسبته ٥٥٪ من الأوغنديين يعيشون تحت خط الفقر .

يقضي شانديا معضم وقته في رعي الماشية التي تمتلكها عائلته ليس لديه وقت لللاعب كباقي الأطفال ، كل يوم مع بزوغ شمس جديدة تجده مع ماشيته ينتقل من حقل لأخر يرتاح قليلاً في وقت الغداء ومن ثم يتابع المسير وهذا هو الحال الذي عليه كل يوم . تسأله بماذا يرغب أو يحب يجاوب وبكل براءة فقط أريد الذاهب إلى المدرسة ولا أريد هذا العمل لقد تعبت ، لكن ليس في اليد حيلة يجب العمل لكي أجد الطعام ، وهذا هو حال الكثير من الأولاد في أوغندا وما يعانون منه .
